Apunix has a number of software innovations that affect the total solution at all levels. The first is Apunix's Kiosk-on-a-Chip™ technology. This innnovation removes the disk drive from the computer and replaces it with a reliable solid state operating system based on Linux. Apunix crafts Linux into an embedded operating system with just the necessary components required for kiosk funtionality. To this Apunix adds its own proprietary software to support the various hardware devices typically found in a kiosk such as touch screens, printers, and card readers. The total solution can fit on a low cost 256MB CompactFlash™ chip (as used in digital cameras) and runs in read-only mode but also can be remotely updated.
